This program assists in calculating page ranges for 500kb chunk documents when breaking down pdf documents larger than 500kb is desired for an easier download on slow internet connections. Important: you must have installed ADOBE ACROBAT (not just the READER) to be able to produce chunks. If you have ADOBE ACROBAT 4.0 or 5.0 installed you may use the auto-chunk feature. More about the auto-chunk feature at the end of this document.

Operation:
1) Using ADOBE ACROBAT: Open the main pdf document that exceeds the 500kb limit. Take note of the total page count of the document (look for it at the bottom of ACROBAT). Then
FILE > SAVE AS..., select the desired document in the file window, then RIGHT CLICK, then SEND TO and select "PDF Chunk Calculator".

2) wrPDFch is now activated, displaying the document selected in 1). If wrPDFch was not able to extract the total page number of the current pdf document (PDF versions earlier than -1.2) then enter the total page count obtained in step (1). Otherwise verify and correct correct page count in wrPDFch. Click SUBMIT to calculate now all the necessary filenames and page deletions for this document.

3) Using wrPDFch: Highlight the first chunk filename by moving the mouse pointer over it, then click once. Instructions on which pages to delete in the first chunk document are displayed on the bottom of the screen.

4) Activate ACROBAT by clicking it's task bar. The SAVE AS... dialog box is still open Make sure the suggested filename is still completely high lighted. RIGHT CLICK on it, then click PASTE to insert wrPDFch's suggested filename. Now click SAVE.

5) Using ACROBAT select DOCUMENT > DELETE PAGES... and then delete the pages as instructed by wrPDFch as seen on the bottom of the calculator. When finished deleting all necessary pages that lead to the creation of this chunk document, click FILE > SAVE. The first partial document has been created. Close the document now to prepare for reloading the complete document over.

6) Using ACROBAT select FILE > "2 ...." This reloads the original main PDF document to continue producing chunk documents.

7) Using wrPDFch, click on the next filename suggestion, further instructions on which pages to delete from the main document are updated on the bottom of this screen.

8) Using ACROBAT: Select FILE > SAVE AS..., then RIGHT CLICK on the already high lighted filename suggestion, select PASTE, then click SAVE. Proceed to delete pages as instructed. Complete this chunk document by selecting FILE > SAVE and close it to prepare for another round.

9) Repeat steps 6) through 8) until all filename suggestions of wrPDFch are exhausted.

You may never have to use the SUBMIT button at all if you don't select any PDF formats 1.2 or earlier, or if all page counts are correct. To open this HELP file here from the running program simply click on the wrPDFch shortcut icon. If your PDF extension has been associated with a program to open them, then you will be able to load that program with the current document selected/displayed by wrPDFch by clicking it's shortcut icon on the main dialog of wrPDFch. By default wrPDFch will float on top of all other open applications. To turn this feature off make sure to remove the check mark in front of "Always On Top".

Or:
a) Make sure, that ADOBE ACROBAT 4.0 is installed and _NOT_ running.
b) Make sure, the option "Always on top" in
wrPDFch is checked.
c) "Browse" to your target .pdf file using
wrPDFch, then select it.
d) After clicking the "Chunk" button, sit back and watch
wrPDFch do all the work by sending keystrokes to your ADOBE ACROBAT application.
e) Do not work or switch to any other program(s) while auto-chunking is in progress.

You may also be able to use the auto-chunk feature with version 5.0 of ADOBE ACROBAT on simple documents.
